Happy Christmas - It's Raining!
December 24, 2008
I know it's not quite Christmas Day here yet, but for many people it is!
Lots of stuff to report. First, yes, it did rain for awhile here. It also didn't get above 29 degrees, so it might get interesting. The snow started up again after nightfall and we got another inch or so of the white stuff (it's taken me a while to write this post!).
I keep forgetting to mention that a few years ago Mom got some
YakTrax "shoe chains" for Mr. W. & me. I'd pulled mine out at the first sign of ice, but Mr. W. didn't think they were all that necessary - until after he'd taken that painful fall last weekend. They are extremely cool, and while they won't solve all the problems of walking on ice/snow, they sure do help with traction. Thanks, mom!
It did snow for the first half of the day and we got another three inches or so. I've decided that as soon as I can wade out to it safely, I'm trashing the front door thermometer.
This was taken while it was snowing!
(More snow pics at the end...)
Many of you have heard the sob story - all Bell performances on Christmas Eve were cancelled (by me and J2). I called Mom and told her to stay home. I haven't been able to leave our property since Tuesday, December 16th - so we haven't finished our shopping and we haven't been able to mail presents. I'm not even sure if FedEx or UPS can get to us (sure haven't seen any trucks this week!) and I've heard that our local post office hasn't been able to make deliveries in some areas.
AND we're out of caffeinated coffee!!
All this adds up to an unusual Christmas for us (and many others in the Pacific Northwest, I might add), to say the least. We hadn't done any decorating, I still haven't wrapped the presents that should have been mailed last Thursday (what's the rush?), we don't have 'official' Christmas dinner fixin's.
BUT, when I woke up this morning, Mr. W. had put up the Christmas tree and pulled the decorations down from storage.
Seriously, is there any doubt why I call him Mr. Wonderful?
Here's my granddaughter's
Christmas Winter gift quilt. You know, you really do need to pardon the photography. It's a lighting (and energy) thing, unfortunately.
Pattern is Enchanted Treasures, size is somewhere in the neighborhood of 54x60".
A Note to the The Girl - I know the kids are too grown up for naps, but I've tested both of their quilts and they are very, very comfy for a little snooze on the couch. heh.
Let's see... I made another turkey last night. This guy was fatty-er than many. Good and bad - good for flavor and moisture, bad for dripping and browning. I'm not complaining, though. It tastes damn good, even though it's not the prettiest one I've cooked.
Kinda looks like a pose Puppy-Butt would strike...
An update to the shot of the hill (this is before the rain started).
This is my fountain. Somewhere under there. It's a hoot when the lights that ring the fountain come on at night - like a mini alien landing pad!
Check out the little birdbath in the foreground. Looks like a cupcake!
We have the Yule Log on TV and Tony Bennett's singing
The Christmas Song.
Although it's been said many times, many ways - Merry Christmas to you!
